Global Statelessness Fund Accompaniment Program and the launch of the GMAS Advocacy Lab

As part of the Global Statelessness Fund (GSF) Accompaniment Program, GMAS has been proud to contribute to a collaborative effort aimed at strengthening the leadership, resilience, and long-term sustainability of organizations led by people directly affected by statelessness and discriminatory nationality laws. The Accompaniment Program complements GSF’s flexible grantmaking by providing tailored support, peer learning opportunities and capacity strengthening initiatives that respond to the priorities identified by grantee partners themselves. GMAS is a member of the Accompaniment Team, working alongside the Global Statelessness Fund, the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion, and the Global Campaign for Equal Nationality Rights to support grantee partners through mentorship, learning opportunities, and leadership development. The program is grounded in the principle that organizations and activists closest to the challenges of statelessness are best placed to define their own needs, priorities, and pathways for change.
Through our participation in the Accompaniment Program, GMAS helped develop and deliver an Advocacy Lab fro GSF grantee partners. The Advocacy Lab was designed as a practical and collaborative learning space where participants could strengthen their advocacy skills, share experiences across regions, and explore strategies for advancing nationality rights in their respective contexts.
The Lab focused on equipping grantee partners with tools to develop advocacy objectives, map stakeholders, build strategic alliances, and communicate effectively with decision-makers and wider audiences. Importantly, it also provided a forum for organizations to learn fromone another, exchange lessons from their advocacy efforts, and reflect on how lived experience can be leveraged as a powerful driver ofsocial and political change.
For GMAS, the Advocacy Lab reflects our broader commitment to building a stronger, more connected statelessness movement that is led by impacted communities. By investing in the advocacy capacity of grassroots organizations and activists, we are helping to ensure that those most affected by statelessness are not only included in conversations about solutions, but are leading them.
The experience reinforced the value of collective learning, peer support, and movement-building. As the Global Statelessness Fund continues to invest in impact-led initiatives around the world, GMAS remains committed to supporting grantee partners to strengthen their voices, advance their advocacy goals, and drive meaningful change for stateless communities everywhere.
